DWD AI Assistant – Pre-Release Proof-of-Concept

Welcome to the download page for the Pre-Release Proof-of-Concept of our new add-in: DWD AI Assistant for Autodesk Revit.

Enter your details below to download a copy of the add-in installer.

You will need an OpenAI API Key before you can use the add-in: Go to https://platform.openai.com/docs/quickstart to create an API key and then set it as a Windows Environment Variable called ‘OPENAI_API_KEY’.

You will also need to add a few dollars of credit to your OpenAI API account. You don’t need much – I have used less than 10 cents of credit in testing so far! Be sure to add the credit in your OpenAI API account not your ChatGPT account – they are different things.

Usage tips

Extract the exe installer from the downloaded zip, then run the exe installer. The add-in will install into Revit 2024 and Revit 2025. If Revit is open, you will need to restart it to load the add-in.

Ask the Assistant what Revit functions it has access to: that will help you understand what it is capable of in Revit.

Future work

None of this is guaranteed, but immediate ideas for improvement include:

Finish up the User Interface: make all the buttons work. Replace the icon on the ribbon button (facepalm)! Add a Settings dialog.

Add versions for Revit 2022 and 2023 (and earlier versions?)

Add more Functions so the Assistant can do more: let me know what would be useful to you! Lots to do here.

Have the Assistant explain what it is going to do before it edits the model, so you can confirm/correct the action.

And so much more…
